Davenport Creative Arts Therapy introduces accessible Mindfulness skills (which may consist of breath work, guided imagery, guided meditation, and mindfulness-based art making). We also infuse Core Mindfulness Skills Training rooted in a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model into sessions.
At Davenport Creative Arts Therapy, we treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Depression, Anxiety & Trauma by infusing aspects of Mindfulness with Art Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to promote growth, reconnection, resilience and self-acceptance.
Through our work together, you will be introduced to these practices which will help you approach challenging situations with increased kindness and self-compassion. Rather than try to avoid or eliminate sadness or other negative emotions, one learns to change their relationship with these emotions by practicing meditation and other mindfulness exercises. We encourage all clients to develop a routine meditation practice to equip clients with tools that will help them replace negative thought patterns.
Mindfulness is a state of awareness that is non-judgmental, accepting, and inviting of whatever arises in the moment. It encourages focusing on the present moment, rather than being preoccupied with pain from the past or anxiety about the future. Mindfulness promotes the development of stability and non-reactivity. Mindfulness-Based interventions have proven to be effective for treating depression, anxiety, chronic pain, substance abuse, insomnia, PTSD, ADHD and obsessive-compulsive disorder (POLLAK, SIEGEL, PEDULLA, 2014). By practicing this form of awareness, you learn to disentangle yourself from habitual thoughts and behaviors and reconnect inward.
