Our Approach
At Davenport Creative Arts Therapy, we provide innovative alternatives to conventional talk therapy through the transformative power of art.
Our philosophy centers on holistic well-being, acknowledging and honoring every aspect of your being. We enhance traditional psychotherapy by expanding avenues for healing and wellness, recognizing that true mental health extends beyond addressing thought patterns alone. This comprehensive approach ensures a deeper, more meaningful journey toward personal growth and healing.
Reasons to Try Art Therapy
Approachable: Not everyone finds it easy to express their thoughts and emotions through words. Art therapy provides a non-verbal means of communication through various art forms.
Effective: Engaging in Art Therapy can help you tap into the subconscious, bringing forth thoughts, feelings, that may be difficult to access through words alone. This can lead to greater insight and self-awareness.
Integrative: Creating art can be a cathartic experience, allowing individuals to express emotions in a safe and constructive manner. This process of externalizing internal experiences through art can be highly therapeutic and can provide profound relief.
Mindful: Engaging in art therapy fosters flexibility of thinking and encourages individuals to explore new perspectives. This can be beneficial for individuals who may feel stuck or overwhelmed in traditional talk therapy.

What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a type of psychotherapy involving creative self expression through various art making materials within a therapeutic relationship.
You do not need to be “artistic” in order to experience the benefits of art therapy. We approachable Art Therapy services complimented with various holistic psychotherapy methods.
We infuse Art Therapy with these methods:
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress, and process traumatic memories. Learn more about EMDR Therapy here.
CBT & TF-CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of structured psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing the automatic negative thoughts and perceptions that can contribute to emotional difficulties, depression, and anxiety. Learn more here.
DBT Skills
DBT is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that effectively addresses how to manage intense emotions, build relationships, and tolerate distress through a skills-based approach to therapy. Learn more about DBT here.
The Research on Art Therapy
Mounting research has shown that Art Therapy helps regulate mood, promotes overall emotional wellbeing, enhances healthier perspectives and reduces physical pain (Malchiodi, 2016).
In nine studies, it was found that art therapy significantly reduced depressive symptoms in six of those cases.
In seven studies examining anxiety, six of those studies showed a strong decrease in anxiety.
: In the three studies addressing trauma, all of them showed a reduction of trauma symptoms.
